safer neighborhood speeds campaign
This project was especially close to my heart. As a Lawrence, Kansas native, I was thrilled to work on a campaign aimed at making the very streets I grew up on safer for everyone—especially pedestrians, kids, and families.
In collaboration with Alta’s Programs team, I helped shape the visual direction for this city-wide education campaign, which encouraged drivers to slow down, look out for others, and stop for people crossing the street.
Because I know Lawrence well—its neighborhoods, history, and character—I brought a deeply personal lens to the design process. I developed a bold, vibrant illustration style rooted in the city’s cultural and visual identity. The final visuals combined grassroots charm with a sense of urgency and care—using hand-drawn elements, strong capital lettering, and bright colors that reflected the tone residents asked for through a community survey.
More than 1,000 residents participated in the campaign’s development, and their input directly shaped the messaging and look of the final materials. I created a full suite of print and digital collateral, including yard signs, community posters, vehicle magnets, reflective stickers, social media graphics, and website assets.
The campaign slogan—“It starts with us”—captured the grassroots spirit and neighbor-to-neighbor accountability that defined the project. Through the City’s ambassador program and support from local organizations, the campaign’s materials spread organically across town, from school backpacks to front lawns.
This campaign wasn’t just a design project—it was a chance to contribute to the safety and wellbeing of my hometown community in a very tangible way.
